OBJECTIVES:
To
evaluate
hard
red
winter
wheat
varieties
and
breeder
selections
for
resistance
to
Dwarf
Bundt,
Tilletia
controversa;
^
yield
and
quality.
„
SUMMARY
AND
RESULTS:
As
in
the
two
previous
dry
years,
the
droughty
conditions
in
1988
were
not
conducive
to
conditions
which
result
in
smut
^
infections.
Thus,
many
of
the
susceptable
hard
red
winter
wheats
produced
yields
greater
than
the
resistant
varieties,
Manning,
Windridge,
and
Weston.
While
Weston
yielded
slightly
less
than
f-»
Manning
and
Windridge
the
test
weight
of
Weston
was
significantly
higher.
