Select a Post Applied Herbicide for Cereals

There are at least 55 namebrand herbicides registered for cereal crop production in Montana, and an even larger number of off-brand chemicals available to producers. Each chemical is labeled for how it is to be used, what weeds it will control or suppress, and the plant-back or rotation restrictions. Unless you are a weed scientist, or a company representative, it's nearly impossible to keep track of all the options available. The purpose of this website is to help narrow your choices for chemical weed control in post-application herbicides on cereals in Montana.

Start by filling in the form below. A database has been constructed that includes registered crops, weeds controlled, weeds suppressed, and rotation restrictions. By entering your field specific information below, the list of available herbicides will be reduced to the handful that meet the conditions you specify.

Our intent is not to recommend any one herbicide, but to provide you with a manageable number of options. You may need to move back and forth from this page and it's result (from clicking the 'Submit' or your browser's 'Back' button) in order to make your decision. Not all weeds are controlled with one chemical, so by including secondary weeds, typically the number of chemicals available is reduced.

Once you have narrowed your choice to a handful of options, click on the herbicide name to go to the label. All labels are provided courtesy of CDMS. Always read the label to be sure it is the chemical you want to use. Alternate choices of herbicides can be found by comparing label formulations.

Current Crop:

If fallow follows this crop, be sure to adjust the number of months until the next crop is planted. Keep in mind that the time till the next crop is the number of months from the date of herbicide application, not from the date of planting.
